LHS Football Game v. Kennedy, Oct. 16, 7pm, Renton Memorial Stadium - Enter at Home Side

Lindbergh is the HOME team this Friday.  Therefore, all LHS fans should park and sit on the SOUTH side of the stadium.

This is an important game as we are tied with Kennedy for 1st place in the league.  It is important to get as many fans as possible to the game this week.  We need to support our players and fill the stadium.  This win will clear the way to the Seamount Championship.  Come on out and bring your clappers, signs, loud voices and stomping feet.  Let's show our players & coaches our love and appreciation.  Just think, you will be there in person when we BEAT KENNEDY.

GO EAGLES!!!

You can vote more than once, but only one time per minute.  If you see your votes are not counting, wait one minute and vote again.  Please send the link to any other LHS supporters!  Thank you!!!

Message from KIROTV.com:

Hi, my name is Nick Trost and I am a web content editor here at kirotv.com. I chose your school to participate in our Game of the Week competition on KIROtv.com because I know your school has school spirit!

The competition works like this: 3 Schools will go head to head once a week on kirotv.com and the winner will have KIRO 7 attend their game.  The winning matchup’s home team will also get traffic reporter Jenni Hogan to come and “Crash The Campus!” (Check out the website to see what happens!)

As if that wasn’t enough, the highlights of the winning game will be put on the 11 p.m. newscast as well as re-aired Saturday morning! Thus, the matchup that wins the survey will get considerable attention and publicity.

The school with the most votes wins-it is as simple as that!

All of the content we produce will be available for your school’s homepage to link to and will exist permanently in our system.

Please encourage your staff, students, friends and parents to vote now!

Reflections

The Reflections program is alive and well at the high school level.  The theme this year is "Beauty is . . . ".   If your child is interested in entering a work of art in the form of a drawing, painting, literature, photograph, musical piece, or other venue, entry forms are available in the school's library.  All entries must have a completed Official Entry Form, and must be signed by the student and parent/guardian.  Please turn in all entries to the main office by Monday, November 9, 2009.

The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA student arts recognition program.  The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works.  Each year, Reflections challenges students to create art that supports a specific theme.  Information and entry packets are also available online at:  http://www.wastatepta.org/programs/Reflections/reflect.htm.

WEB LINKS TO ATHLETIC INFORMATION

Below is information on how to access the athletic schedules and forms that are on our district athletic web pages.

Here is the link to the forms page where we now have high school sports clearance forms (including the new head injury/concussion form we are asking middle schools to use as well) as well as all of our sport specific warning letters:

http://www.rentonschools.us/Departments/Activities_and_Athletics/
AthleticForms

Here is the link to the sport schedules page where we post both the high school and middle school sport schedules (middle schools are on the lower half of the page):

http://www.rentonschools.us/Departments/Activities_and_Athletics/
SportsSchedules

Rather than having each school upload the forms to their own pages, schools will now link to our pages. That way, as we update the schedules or forms, the school page will be current as well.

To find these pages without the above links, you do the following:

1)     Go to the Renton School District home page at www.rentonschools.us
2)     In the menus near the top, just under the photo bar, click on “District Departments”
3)     Scroll down to Extracurricular and click on “Activities and Athletics”
4)     Once on the Activities and Athletics main page, choose the appropriate menu from the left side—Sport Schedules or Athletic Forms

HIGHSCHOOLSPORTS.NET

There is another way to to view games, scrimmages, practices, etc.   For a comprehensive schedule of Fall, Winter, and Spring Sports, scrimmages, practices, clubs (e.g., International, Rocket, Deca, Key, Speech, Chess), parent group meetings, Class events and sales, and much more, go to HighSchoolSports.net.  The direct link is:  http://www.highschoolsports.net/

Click on the tab "My School", and type in Lindbergh High School.   Pick LHS in Renton (NOT the St. Louis one!).  You can view the schedule for two days, the week, month, or the entire season!  This is the most comprehensive schedule yet!  You can also sign up to receive e-mails or text messages, alerting you to changes in the schedule, cancelled games and meets, and scores.

Washington Generals annual essay contest
keys on 1909 World’s Fair in Seattle

Did the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, Washington’s first World’s Fair which concluded in Seattle 100 years ago after a run of nearly five months, change Washington state history?
A service organization called the Association of Washington Generals is asking for perspectives to that question in their annual essay contest, which is now open to students enrolled in grades seven to 12.

The association sponsors the annual essay contest to promote academic excellence and strong literacy skills. This year’s contest asks students to write a detailed essay answering the question: “2009 is the 100th anniversary of the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition. How important was the relationship with Alaska to the history of the state of Washington?” Pay Streak, Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, Seattle, 1909
Photo by Frank Nowell, Courtesy UW Special Collections (Neg. No. Nowell x1515, Image No. AYP591) and HistoryLink.org

There is no length requirement, but participants are asked to be descriptive in conveying their individual thoughts and ideas and focus on the issues that are the most important to them. A study aid on the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition, which drew more than 3 million visitors to the University of Washington campus, can be found on the HistoryLink.org Web site.
Winners in the grades 7-9 and 9-11 categories each receive $500, and the winning senior earns a higher education scholarship of $1,500. The overall statewide winner from all categories is awarded an additional $500. Runners-up in each category also receive cash awards and the teacher or advisor who submits the most student essays will receive $250. Winners will also receive a plaque at an awards ceremony at their school.
Essays are due Monday, Dec. 14.  More information and an application packet can be found on the Generals’ Web site at http://www.wagenerals.org or by contacting Victoria Laise Jonas, AWG Student Essay Contest chairperson, at ssjonas@comcast.net
The Association of Washington Generals is a state service organization whose primary function is to recognize worthy citizens who contribute their time and their effort to the community.  In sponsoring the contest, the AWG partners with schools to support the teaching of basic skills of reading and writing.
The AWG operates in partnership with the office of Lt. Governor Brad Owen.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT I-1033 NOW AVAILABLE ON WSPTA WEBSITE

Initiative 1033, the latest Tim Eyman effort to limit government spending, was not on the formal agenda at the Legislative Assembly, but was a major topic among those in attendance because of its potential adverse effects on public education and other services important to children.  If adopted, the initiative would limit the total revenue that could be expended in any calendar year to the amount received in 2009, plus an adjustment based on a national inflation index and any increase in the general population.

The Office of Financial Management has estimated that this initiative would deprive publically funded education and health services almost $6 billion in support over the next six years.  As reported in earlier editions, the WSPTA Board of Directors has gone on record as opposing the initiative at its August meeting.  In response to requests from many in attendance at the Legislative Assembly, we have established a separate page on our website at http://www.wastatepta.org/advocacy/I_1033/index.html.  Be sure to check back often because we will be updating this information frequently.

Please remember to support the PTSA and Lindbergh Boosters Club - they are the main vehicles by which parents can keep informed and in contact with the school and each other!
If you want to be removed from the e-mail list, please e-mail me at sidekik@msn.com.  Please feel free to forward this to other Lindbergh parents, so they will know what is going on!!!
